A practical note on technical debt

Not every shortcut becomes debt. The useful question is whether the team can still make the next decision clearly.

Technical debt is often discussed as if it were a moral failure. In practice, a shortcut is simply a trade: speed now in exchange for a future constraint.

The debt becomes expensive when it is invisible. Name the trade, leave a small note about the pressure that caused it, and review it when the surrounding product changes.

A healthy team does not eliminate every shortcut. It keeps the important ones legible.
